The New York Red Bulls are a founding team of Major League Soccer in 1996. The team was originally known as the New York/New Jersey MetroStars despite fans wanting to revive the Cosmos name. From the 1998 season through the 2005 season, the team was known as simply the MetroStars before Red Bull bought the team and re-named them the New York Red Bulls. The team used to play at Giants Stadium prior to moving the Red Bull Arena this season. The club`s record attendance was over 79,000 when the team played FC Barcelona at Giants Stadium.
