TFC Suffer Crushing Defeat To New York

Toronto FC suffer a potential fatal blow in their quest to reach the MLS Playoffs after a crushing 4-1 defeat at the hands of rivals New York Red Bulls.

It was always going to come but we had hoped after the shock CONCACAF Champions League win over Cruz Azul in the week, Toronto FC would at least hold out for a draw but now any chance of reaching the MLS playoffs are hanging by a thread.

Newly acquired Rafael Marquez got the route going with his first goal since joining the club on the 35th minute however things would go from bad to worse when Nane Joseph would score an own goal to give the visitors a 2-0 advantage going into the break.

The Reds came to life after the break after Canadian International Dwayne De Rosario scored to make it 2-1 to the visitors. The Red Bulls` third goal came as a result of a hand ball by Nana Attakora in Toronto`s box which earned the defender a red card and gave New York a penalty. Juan Pablo Angel promptly stepped up and slotted home the ball to make it 3-1 for the Red Bulls.

Former Toronto FC midfielder Carl Robinson would complete the scoring on the 78th minute much to the dismay of the record crowd of 22,108 at BMO Field.

After the loss Toronto sit 8 points behind second place New York and two points above the Chicago Fire who have 2 games in hand on TFC. Toronto will hope to get back on track next weekend as they host Real Salt Lake at BMO Field..
